Frosty mornings were predicted for several days so I decided to pull all the peppers, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and whatever else wouldn't make it.

Blushing beauty pepper. They start out sort of white like the small one and turn a bright shade of orange. I wasn't sure if these would make it, they got kinda wilty a few times and I didn't know if it was the disease hitting the pepper bed or just heat and drought. |

The last few Dragon Tongue beans, last Georgia Flaming Hot pepper and a zucchini. |

Last of the sweet potatoes, definitely smaller than the first round. But still happy! |

A few left over potatoes. I would have left them for next year but we are totally rearranging the beds and building a couple of new ones so they would not have been left undisturbed. |

A few more beans before the plants are pulled. Still getting a tiny bit of raspberries! |

The oregano got a haircut. Another zucchini, maybe the last. And probably the last of the beans, we'll see. |

And how do you like this little pink pumpkin I grew sewed? She is still waiting on a hat from gramma but she is in love with her costume, she thinks it needs more stuffing, but she can hardly move as it is! This costume was her idea based on her favorite book Pinkalicious and the Pink Pumpkin.Great little girls book! |

What a great harvest! I really need to get out and trim what's left of our herbs before they all wilt away!

ReplyDeleteI harvested all our frost sensitive crops too. Those are some great looking sweet potatoes! Nice peppers too.

ReplyDeleteYou got a lot out of the garden this week with all your frost anticipation tidy up's. I will have to bring in my tomatoes soon too for the same reason - but not quite yet. The longer they can stay on the vine and mature the better chance I have of them ripening off the vine. No frost in the weather forecast so I will push it until the cold rains arrive.
What do you plan to do with all your cherry tomatoes? We grew them for the first time this year and have TONS of green ones. We had a mild frost last night (which I didn't anticipate -- thankfully, nothing left in the garden was damaged!). I'll have to throw the row covers on this evening to protect our fall lettuce. Anyway, would love some suggestions for all my green tomatoes. Thanks for dropping by my blog this morning. Hope you give the pumpkin cornbread muffins a try as they really are quite good. ReplyDeleteLisa, I have actually been giving a lot of them away to our church secretary, she is doing some crazy fruit and veg juice diet! My daughter eats the rest. If she doesn't I throw them in with salsa or sauces. I do plan to try that recipe! Love pumpkin stuff!
DeleteGreat looking end of season harvest! We also had frost this week so we are done with the summer crops! On to fall, the lettuce will be ready in just a few weeks!!

ReplyDeleteHappy trick or treating to a darling little pink pumpkin! I doubt if we get any more raspberries, just a couple if any. Boo hoo! You still harvested a lot of nice green peppers and lucky you to have sweet potatoes! Still a nice harvest. Nancy

ReplyDeleteBlushing beauty pepper? First time that I've heard of those - how cute! You've a got a nice variety in this week's harvest, but the part about peppers turning red....forgive my ignorance but do you mean to say that if picked green, they will eventually turn into their true colors? I've got red and yellow bell pepper plants and the fruit are HUGE but I'm reluctant to pick them unti they turn color on the bush. We're averaging temps in the mid-60's during the day and 60's at night, so for now the plants are safe from the elements.
ReplyDeleteRowena, a lot of peppers will turn inside just like a tomato, however they do not last long on the counter so I only give them a few days and if they do not then I go ahead and use them or freeze them. Probably 3/4 of my peppers have turned red since picking them a few days ago, even some that were solid green.
DeleteI should add, that I do try to let them turn red on the plant because they take way longer than a tomato, but we had frost coming. I would keep them out as long as I could!
DeleteThanks for the advice! Seeing that we aren't expecting frost until next month, I'll let the peppers do their own thing.
